Curriculum Vitae
Marius Herb, born in Augsburg in 2000, studied Catholic church music (BA) and concert organ (BA, with distinction) in Regensburg with Prof. Franz Josef Stoiber after initially taking organ lessons with Peter Bader. Franz Josef Stoiber. He then studied organ (MA, with distinction) at the University of Music at
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, in the class of Prof. Gerhard Gnann. Building on this, he began his concert exam in organ in 2022, which he also completed with distinction in 2024.
From 2022 to 2023, he studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris in the organ class of Thomas Ospital and Olivier Latry.
He has achieved success in competitions at national and international level, including the International Organ Competition in Wuppertal (2019, 1st prize), the Music Prize of the City of Regensburg (2020, honourable mention) and the International Rheinberger Competition in Vaduz, Principality of Liechtenstein (2022, 1st prize). In 2024, he was awarded the Music Prize of the District of Augsburg by District Administrator Martin Sailer. In 2025, he won the Albert Schweitzer Organ Prize of the Bernhard Foundation and, in the same year, 2nd prize at the International Albert Schweitzer Organ Competition of the Saar Music Festival in
Saarbrücken.
From 2023 to 2025, he worked with the Augsburg Cathedral Boys’ Choir as assistant to the cathedral music director.
In July 2025, he completed his master’s degree in Catholic church music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich under Prof. Bernhard Haas and Prof. Martin Sander. Since the 2024/25 winter semester, he has been a lecturer in liturgical organ playing and improvisation at the same institution.
Since January 2026, Marius Herb has been the full-time church musician at the Papal Basilica of St. James in Straubing and, in this role, artistic director of the International Organ Summer.
Concerts have taken him to important venues in Germany and other European countries (including Saint Eustache Paris, Munich Cathedral, Regensburg Cathedral, Freiburg Minster, Konzerthaus Berlin, Stadthalle Wuppertal, Palace Chapel of Versailles, etc.). Radio recordings with SWR and projects with
orchestras complement his artistic activities.
